Basic Security Checklist for New VPS Servers

We strongly recommend doing the following within the first hour of receiving your VPS:

Linux Security

  • Update OS:

     
    apt update && apt upgrade -y

  • Change root password

  • Create a non-root sudo user

  • Install a firewall (UFW recommended)

     
    ufw allow 22 ufw enable

  • Install Fail2Ban

  • Disable SSH password login (optional but recommended)

Windows Security

  • Change Administrator password

  • Enable Windows Firewall

  • Install security updates

  • Disable RDP port exposure or restrict by IP (best practice)

Backups

Backups are your responsibility unless you purchase the Managed/Backup addon.
